Access Control
Access Control
An access control system allows for the automatic monitoring of specific access areas of a site, building, or technical facility. An access control point can be a door, a turnstile, a parking entrance, an elevator, or another physical barrier.
Access by authorized individuals is controlled using RFID technology. Learn more about the innovative access control system and explore our products.
How RFID Works in Access Control
An RFID access control reader typically does not make access decisions. It sends a card number to an access control panel, which cross-checks the number or data against an access control list. In most cases, only entry is controlled. If exit control is also required, a second reader is placed on the opposite side of the door. If the transmitted data matches the data available on the access control list, access to the company/organization is granted.
Applications of RFID in Access Control
The typical RFID tag is a contactless smart card, key fob, wristband, or smartphone sticker. An RFID-based access control system is commonly used for monitoring in companies, parking lots, access to fitness centers or swimming pools, at events, in libraries, or as door keys for hotel rooms.
Advantages of RFID Technology for Access Control
RFID technology provides a high level of data security. The possibility of copying access credentials is massively reduced, ensuring that only authorized individuals gain access to the given premises. It also helps companies or organizations assign specific roles to certain individuals, making it easier to prevent data breaches since employees are responsible for their actions within the company. Encrypted or proprietary communication protocols can also be used for enhanced security, further improving data protection.
Moreover, access control cards are durable. They withstand harsh environments, making them more cost-effective than other alternatives like barcodes. We offer a wide range of products for access control across various applications.
